The Role
DeFi Recruitment is looking for a Lawyer to join a high performing team. The ideal applicant will have experience in traditional financial markets and digital assets.
  
We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual who thrives in a fast paced and dynamic environment. Ambition to work on leading edge challenges and opportunities specific to digital assets is a must. This role will cover multiple jurisdictions. You will work closely with the rest of the legal team as well as with the businesses directly: traders, business development, product, operations. You will also work on projects with the senior leadership team, such as COO, CEO, etc.
  
Responsibilities:

  • Lead legal-commercial negotiations: draft and negotiate agreements in relation to multiple business lines (OTC spot, liquidity provision, derivatives documentation, trading agreements, software agreements, and others)
  • Regulatory research & compliance guidance: work closely with the General Counsel and Deputy GC to monitor the legal and regulatory landscapes across jurisdictions; support financial regulatory compliance under each regulatory regime (FCA, MAS, SEC, CTFC, etc.); advise and support guidance on regulation of decentralized finance and protocols
  • Corporate: support and manage the corporate structure and governance across multiple entities and jurisdictions
  • Disputes and claims: assist the legal team and the business to resolve any commercial disputes efficiently while protecting the Company’s interests
  • External counsel: Manage external counsel as required, e.g. employment law, counsel in relation to other jurisdictions, etc. Assist with managing legal spend and review legal bills

  
Hard skills requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience practicing law (qualified) at a top-tier law firm or as in-house counsel for a firm specialized in financial services, fintech and/or crypto;
  • Experience working in a high-performance, dynamic and high-growth environment is strongly preferred; self-motivation and drive is essential
  • Strong grasp of commercial law in relation to financial services, e.g. financial services contracts, trading agreements, derivatives documentation and others (OTC, structured products, lending agreements etc.)
  • Knowledge of regulations in relation to proprietary trading, financial services and crypto specifically those in the UK, Singapore, the USA and/or EU, general knowledge of regulations in other jurisdictions
  • Experience/understanding of the crypto industry, i.e. types of tokens, token governance, DAOs, blockchain foundations and decentralized organizations is strongly preferred
  • Experience with commercial litigation or dispute resolution is a plus
  • Curiosity and interest to learn other areas of law and business quickly
  • Proven ability to see the bigger picture and commercial strategy; quickly understand new functional areas and have a cross-functional mindset
  • Strong interest and curiosity in algorithmic trading and decentralized finance
  • Detail oriented, interested in delivering client-first solutions to legal and business problems
  • Experience with MS Office, Google Suite, CRM (eg Hubspot), CLM (Ironclad and/or Spotdraft)

The Head of Finance & Operations will direct and control all organisational operations in accordance with the Company strategy agreed by the Founders to ensure that organisational goals and objectives are met. This Head of Finance & Operations is a key operational and strategic hire for the organisation and will play a fundamental role in supporting the Founders and other key functions with achieving their strategic growth objectives. The Head of Finance & Operations will report to the Founders and line manage all non-trading staff.
 
Requirements
 
This is primarily a finance orientated role, therefore hands on experience in a senior finance and operations role is critical to the success of this role.
 
You are good with people, get things done quickly to a high level of standard. Your personality allows you to directly coordinate with management but you’re independent enough to drive relevant initiatives autonomously. You’re excited to work in a small but highly profitable trading firm that has grown 100% organically (zero external funding or client money) where every employee needs to make a positive contribution to PnL. You are happy to work in the office in London 5 days a week. 
 
Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the company’s finance, accounting, cash flow and tax strategy, while optimising the company’s financial performance and strategic position
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the business including finance, facilities management, HR, legal, operational risk and general operations
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Founders, an annual operating plan (‘roadmap’) that supports the long-term operations strategy
  • Assist the Founders in developing and overseeing the long-term business strategies of the business
  • Keep the Founders fully informed in a timely and candid manner of the conduct of the day-today operations of the business towards the achievement of its established goals and of all material deviations from the goals or objectives and policies established by the Founders
  • With respect to operational matters, ensure communications, resolution of issues and project development
  • Ensure the development of health and safety practices for the business and oversee compliance with those practices
  • Foster a business culture that promotes ethical practices, shared values and encourages individual integrity
  • Maintain a positive and ethical work climate that is conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating a diverse group of top-quality employees at all levels
  • Assess and manage the principal risks of the business within finance and operations
  • Assist the Founders in establishing an appropriate organisational structure

 
Qualities that make a great candidate

  • Experience working in a scale up proprietary trading firm, family office, financial trading firm, or crypto related business is highly desirable
  • Previous experience in a senior management position such as a Head of Finance & Operations / COO
  • Fully Qualified accountant or qualified by experience, with up-to-date technical knowledge
  • Financial accounting and analysis skills, including project budgeting and forecasting
  • Ability to work under pressure at high level
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and data management skills 
  • Ability to think proactively and preemptively about business issues
  • Able to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, internal teams and external third-party advisors at both a technical and non-technical level
  • Highly organised with good project management skills, experience of project coordination and delivery to deadlines
  • Demonstrated initiative with a strong sense of urgency and purpose with proven ability to operate in high pressure situations whilst handling multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Excellent organisational and planning ability
  • Problem-solving aptitude combined with hands-on can-do mindset
